How to Create More & Consume Less
I normally wouldn't take notes on a clickbait-y productivity YouTube video like this, but creation is something I've been thinking a lot about recently (which is why I'm updating this blog more frequently!). This video had some helpful tips on how to start creating.
Reasons to create content on the Internet:
- Deepening understanding of a topic
- Build your personal brand
- Connect with likeminded people
How to start creating content:
- Collect the best content you can find
- Curate!
- Sort through the content you've collected and choose what to share with others
Curation transitions into creation. As you add your own perspective, you create your own narrative and can positively impact others this way.
Six ways to curate -> create:
- Curate a newsletter
- Create infographics/diagrams explaining things
- Create comparison tables. Share your research in a comparative format to guide others.
- Create toolkits explaining a niche or skill people want to learn.
- Create guides.
- Create reviews.
How to curate content:
- Have a place to store curated content
- Learn in public. Become a documentarian of your own learning journey.
- Combine the personal and the objective. Find the middle ground between objective factoids and life updates.
- Always pitch something. Try to pitch people on something that you think will benefit them.
- Feed and tune your network.
❗️You don't need to be an expert to get started!
Think of curation as a dialogue with your future self. Every piece of content you create, every insight you share, is a time capsule being sent to future you.
